HASE Thickener HISOL

Alkali swellable associative thickeners improve the rheological property of water-based paints (especially by reducing the splatter). The paint stability and the performance of the paint film allows money to be saved by replacing HEC or CMC which are traditional thickeners used in water based paints whilst improving the flow and leveling of the paint.


  • HISOL thickeners are very effective for styrene-acrylic copolymer binder paint and vinyl acetate-acrylic copolymer binder paint.
  • When combined with a small amount of HEC thickener, HISOL is very effective at stabilizing the viscosity, reducing the color floating, and syneresis.
  • HISOL thickeners maintain the stable viscosity and rheological character of the alkali pH for a long term. When applied to pure-acrylic binder paint, we recommend using only a limited amount because it increases viscosity.
  • Compared with cellulose derived thickeners, HISOL thickeners have a better stability with microbes and enzymes.
  • Newly released thickening agents in the HISOL 300 range (HISOL 303, 305, 307, and 308) have good viscosity stability and less color floating when compared to former grades.
  • Compared with cellulose derived thickeners, HISOL is very competitively priced and can significantly reduce the cost of paint production.
  • Compared with previous HASE thickeners, a small dosage is required to achieve the same viscosity, and it is therefore possible to improve the water sensibility of the paint film.

HISOL 500 Series
HISOL 501, 507, 510 can use KU builder in Acrylic coating instead of HEUR Rheology modifier, ASE thickener and HEC.
In general, application of an acrylic HASE thickener of an acrylic emulsion resin has a problem of stability such as viscosity increase during storage, and therefore, there is a limitation in use.
However, in the case of the new HISOL 500 series, these points can be improved to improve stability when used in acrylic emulsion resins.
The HISOL 500 series is one step further as an economical and environmentally friendly coatings for rheology modifier additives.
HISOL 501, 507, 510 have excellent viscosity stability in pure acrylic and EVA resins, NO VOC, less syneresis in long term storage and less color floating problem during drying.

Combining HISOL HASE and HIRESOL HEUR rheology modifiers can facilitate exceptional performance properties that neither chemistry family can offer alone. For example, adding a high-shear HEUR can improve the flow of a HASE base formulation. Combining HASE and HEUR Rheology Modifiers also can improve the stain resistance and sag resistance of HEUR- only coatings. Adding a HASE to a HEUR system in medium and deep base formulations also offers the benefit of improving viscosity retention upon tinting.
 
When formulating with HEUR and HASE thickeners try the following combinations.

The combination of a high-shear HASE with an efficient Newtonian HEUR ICI builder offers application flow
and sag resistance. The use of HASE can also improve the stain resistance of the coating.

HISOL 500 series can be used as a co-thickener to a HEUR-thickened system to improve the brush and
roller application as well as improve stain resistance. HISOL 500 series are costs effective replacement for
